Valentine's Day Glitter Tips

So obviously this isn't specifically a "Valentine's Day only" mani, more of a "Valentine's Day mani IDEA". I know not everyone has stamping plates or other things that I or others may use for a V-day mani. Or maybe they consider it tacky or just want something simple. So all you need for this is a base polish, a glitter polish, and a top coat*!













3 coats Revlon Lilac Pastelle
1 coat Poshe
Silver glitter is Ardene Diamonds
1 more coat Poshe*

*I find a top coat necessary because of my technique. If you don't use a top coat, you may be able to see streaks of the clear base of the glitter polish.

I did these just like my China Glaze VIII with Glitter Tips post. Here's how I did it:

1. Paint on your base polish as you normally would.

2. Add a quick dry top coat (which I recommend), or wait until it's dry.

3. Paint the glitter polish just on the tip of your nail.

4. Wipe the brush on the sides of the bottle and gently, use the glitter polish brush to use light, irregular strokes and brush some polish from the tip towards the cuticle.
I don't go all the way to my cuticle. I just sort of gauge how far up I want it.

5. Go over the tip again to make sure the glitter is heavier there to help with the gradient effect.

6. Use a top coat and you're done!!

As much as I'm not a huge fan of vampy colors, it's winter, and winter is the time for vampy colors (for me anyway)! I don't like when deep colors just look black, so I decided to add some glitter to China Glaze's VIII to help dress it up a little and maybe pull out some of the purple.

Now, the glitter is kind of in a gradient form. I didn't use anything special for this, just the brush. I was initially going to just cover the nail in the glitter, but figured I'd mix it up.

The method I used was EXTREMELY easy and you do not need any other supplies besides your polish. I just painted the tip thick with the glitter, wiped the brush on the sides of the bottle to get as much glitter off the brush as I could, then I took the brush and lightly brushed the glitter towards my cuticle. I went over the tip again to make sure the glitter was heavier there. That was it! I did top it with Poshe again because while the glitter dries pretty quickly, there were clear streaks from the base of the glitter. The Poshe just helped smooth it out.

I went a little too heavy on my index finger but didn't feel like fixing it. I was also doing this is very poor lighting so I didn't realize how thick the glitter was at the time. Lol. I did not drag the glitter all the way to my cuticle. I stopped a little bit before that. Had my lighting been better, I would've gone further. But after my index finger getting too much glitter, I figured I'd keep it safe!

Enchanted Forest with Tips of Rage

I actually have a ton of other ideas for fun nail art-ish things using Enchanted Forest as a base. Gosh I'm obsessed with this color!! Anyway, this isn't quite what I envisioned, but I wore it anyway:

I initially wanted to do more of a geometric type of thing using Enchanted Forest and Rage because I think they're SO complimentary. But when I tried that, it just wasn't working. So I grabbed some scrapbooking scissors and tried to cut tape a few different ways. I actually didn't want to do tips, I wanted to split the nail with each color vertically, but the tape was too skinny and not cooperating so it was tips or I was throwing the scissors and tape out the freakin' window. Driving a mile down the road to Target to get the right kind of scotch tape was not an option... but as I type this and I'm remembering I have packing tape that would have worked perfectly, I'm not actually really annoyed. Wow.

Wet 'n' Wild Starry Night French

Sorry for the boring nails today. When I wear a polish I've never worn before, I typically like to wear it once on it's own (unless I have a REALLY good idea for nail art/Konad/french/etc.) and then do something to it the next day. I hadn't realized I was doing that until a few weeks ago when I did it with a Tronica polish. Anyway, obviously yesterday was the first time I wore this polish. I didn't want to hide it with Konad because the polish is gorgeous and I didn't want to take away from that. So I added silver tips instead.

Kinda bummed because there is no sun today... it SNOWED last night... so the photos aren't as gorgeous as yesterday without the tips, but it still looks just as jelly and beautiful.

So I ordered my BOGO Zoya's! I picked Faye and Pheobe. I knew immediately after seeing swatches that I wanted Pheobe and didn't want any of the Summertime collection because to me, they're just dupe-able cremes. After significant debating between Kimmy, Reva, Rica, and Faye, I went with Faye. What'd you get?
